Find your voice. Lead a chorus
Luckily, today’s action is one of the lowest hanging fruit in the bunch. You can protect democracy by just by talking about it! Consistently and often. Remind people that democracy - not just ideology - has a powerful advocate in you!
And then amplify the effect of your voice by finding people to join the chorus - and speak together with one voice.
Forms of “talking about it” publicly (from protect democracy.org):
*Write a letter to the editor when your local paper covers an issue related to democracy as a partisan dispute
*Circulate an open letter among your friends and colleagues, standing up for democracy before ideology
*Organize a petition calling on your elected representatives to vote for measures strengthening democracy, to push for accountability for abuses, or to reject election lies and conspiracy theories
*Use your social media platforms not just to advocate for your political beliefs, but also to attest to why democracy should be separate from politics, a shared value even among those who disagree
One caveat - make sure that you and the people around you never amplify disinformation or misinformation, even to debunk it. We want to keep our democratic discourse healthy! Here’s a great guide to evaluating internet resources:

SO… did you take yesterday’s action? How are you going to “get involved locally”?
(I resolved to continue serving as the secretary of a local non-profit, United Community Partners. We facilitate the funding of a number of local projects, including long-range city planning, the bolstering of our fire department, and a fund for those in need of emergency assistance. I will also join the weekly peace vigil, when I am able.)
It’s time.
